The Genesis of Knox Garden Box

Over 50 years ago, our founder, Warren Knox, set out on a mission with a straightforward yet transformative idea: to make gardening easier and more accessible for everyone. Inspiration struck when a young Warren watched his grandfather struggle with bending and kneeling to tend to his traditional ground-level garden. Determined to find a better way to garden, Warren created and patented an elevated garden box, which made gardening easier by reducing strain on the knees and back. His simple but effective innovation solved a widespread issue. It became the foundation for a product that has helped countless gardeners rediscover the joys of tending to their plants across the West Coast. Warren’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop with garden boxes. In 1985, he obtained his roofing license and, by 1994, established Knox Roofing in Santa Cruz, CA.
